It’s a tribute to the diversity and creativity of the metal genre that a band can still come up with a totally new inspiration for their music. Such a band is MONGOL!
Hailing from Edmonton, Alberta, MONGOL’s folk metal is inspired by the ancient Mongolian Empire, which was the largest land empire in history, at various times it included China, Korea, Mongolia, Persia (now Iran), Turkestan, and Armenia. It also included parts of Burma, Vietnam, Thailand, and Russia. This Empire increased contacts between people; and enabled the introduction of such innovations as paper, the compass and gunpowder. It is no exaggeration to say the Mongolian Empire helped shape the modern world.
Now, MONGOL stand poised to unleash their latest album ‘The Return’, inspired by an ancient Mongolian prophecy of the return of Genghis Khan, Lord of All the People Dwelling in Felt Tents, from his grave. In the album, on seeing the sorry state of the world today, Genghis seeks to remake it as the New World Khanate.
Inspired by Kalmah, Wolfchant, Falconer, Dimmu Borgir, lead guitarist Luke Barry (Zev) describes MONGOL’s sound as “melodic, eclectic, diverse, genre-defying, epic!”
As he explains. “We derived the band name, Mongol, from the fierce warriors of the Mongolian Steppe. To draw inspiration we have watched Mongolian films and read their oldest text “The Secret History of the Mongols” and other source material. In addition to this we have traveled to Mongolia and spent some time there, which was a great wellspring of inspiration.”
Live, MONGOL resembles the warriors that inspired them, “bringing a unique energy to the stage that showcases our vast spanning sound perfectly. When the crowd isn’t banging their heads to one of our heavier songs, they are dancing joyously or clinking their beers with brethren in the mosh pit, singing along to catchy melodic choruses!”
“The Return” is due out via Sliptrick Records on October 5th, 2018.
Videos and singlesPosted by Hallowed nyheter 2018-07-18 20:02 The track is taken from their upcoming third albumWe All Know which is setto be released via Holy Roar on July 27th 2018.
Across the nine songs on their new album TALONS expertly weave multiple layers of instruments and beats, showcasing real compositional visceral power, exhibiting their skills in structure and dynamic control. The musical portraits the band paint take us through a variety of sonic landscapes rich in vivid imagery, from bleak to warm and everything in between.
The progressively ambitious sextet, who celebrate their tenth anniversary this year, excel with their third release, carving their own exciting niche in contemporary music. Led by a dual violin instrumentation, TALONS variously touch on world / folk music, with more than occasional allusions to Indian classical music; modern classical; and heavy, expansive post-rock.
Recorded in August 2017 at Greenmount Studios in Leeds, inside an old church, with Lee Smith and Jamie Lockhart at the controls, We All Know was mastered by long-time collaborator Tom Woodhead (¡Forward Russia!). This is the second album TALONS have recorded at Greenmount Studios following 2014’s New Topographics. The recording process was done live as a full band with very few overdubs in order to give the recordings a more intimate and direct feel.
Forming in 2008, TALONS signed with Big Scary Monsters in 2009, releasing their debut single, "The Pearl" on 7” vinyl as well as a split single with And So I Watch You From Afar, featuring the song “Bethlehem”.
The band recorded their debut album, Hollow Realm, releasing in November 2010 (CD - Big Scary Monsters; 12" vinyl - Topshelf Records; special extended CD - Xtal Records, Japan). It received critical acclaim, notably from BBC Music, Drowned In Sound, Rock Sound and The Line of Best Fit. TALONS also recorded a Radio 1 Maida Vale session for Huw Stephens, and toured the record across the UK and mainland Europe.
Four years later, TALONS returned with their second album, New Topographics. A change in mood, more rhythmic and expansive, the album again received high praise in the press, including DIY magazine, Clash and Drowned in Sound. The album was also ranked #2 best album of 2014 by Already Heard website. In promoting the album TALONS made notable appearances at ArcTanGent, Truck Festival, Damnation Festival and Tramlines, as well as support slots with Pianos Become the Teeth and Amenra.
Catch them live:
21/7/2018 – Tramlines – City Hall Ballroom, Sheffield 16/8-18/8/2018 – Arctangent Festival 1/9 - Big Scary Monsters Day Out, London + more to be announced.

Videos and singlesPosted by Hallowed nyheter 2018-07-17 16:59 THE AGONY SCENE have dropped another track from their new album Tormentor, out 20 July via Outerloop Records/Cooking Vinyl. Guitarist Chris Emmons comments: "Serpent’s Tongue was the first song we wrote after getting back together in 2014. Lyrically the song is about individuals who give no f*cks about deceiving or trampling on others for personal gain. The track also features a guitar solo performed by the one and only Emil Werstler."
“This is exactly how this music should be done” - Kerrang!
"Slowly Slowly stand out from anything else happening in Australian music right now and 'St Leonards' is an exciting snapshot of what’s to come for this rising band" - Music Feeds
"'St. Leonards' sees Slowly Slowly pushing themselves to new heights to ensure no one underestimates them" - Rock Sound
Slowly Slowly have revealed their next single and video “Smile Lines” today. The single is taken from their new album "St. Leonards", available now via UNFD. One of the grungier offerings from "St. Leonards", the dark, haunting refrain of “Smile Lines” is captured perfectly through the lens of Garrod, whose sunny disposition masks a vulnerable and complex soul.
On "Smile Lines" frontman Ben Stewart says: “We wrote the heavier sections as a band and had a lot of fun jumping around injecting it with energy. I sat with the quiet elements at home, trying to impart a conflicted narrative, which I felt would be an important backdrop to the more aggressive moments we had in the rehearsal room. The juxtaposition felt right and that’s where Michael Roberts and I dreamed up the character of Garrod, the Jekyll and Hyde supermarket employee, harshly torn between his watered-down self and a complex rawness only present behind closed doors. Take what you want from the storyline, but for me the song centres around becoming entangled in your own web - the more you thrash around the worse it gets. Thomas Watson (Garrod) was incredible to work with and took us back and forth from stunned silence to roaring laughter over and over again in a very cold house one night in Brunswick”.
Videos and singlesPosted by Hallowed nyheter 2018-07-17 14:34 Canadian punk/rock band Like Pacific have premiered new song 'Had It Coming', taken off the band's hotly-anticipated 2nd full-length album, In Spite Of Me, which comes out 27th July via Pure Noise Records.
“Had it coming is pretty straight forward. When you’re a bad person, you deserve nothing good. I guess you can blame your family for that.”- Jordan Black (vocals)
Videos and singlesPosted by Hallowed nyheter 2018-07-17 14:33 Osaka’s Crossfaith have today released "Catastrophe", the latest track from their new album "Ex_Machina", set for release on August 3 via UNFD.
Speaking of the track, singer Kenta 'Ken' Koie says "Catastrophe is another new song from our new album Ex Machina, which we are very excited about releasing! To inspire me to write this song I watched DEVILMAN crybaby, which is a famous Japanese sci-fi action anime, and it helped me write the lyrics. We always want our fans to experience something they've never had before through our music and shows, so we are looking forward to seeing everyone on our UK & Europe tour later this year!".
"Ex_Machina" is the Japanese band’s fifth album and the follow-up to 2015’s critically acclaimed "Xeno". The album features an impressive cameo from Enter Shikari frontman Rou Reynolds as well industrial hip hoppers Ho99o9. "Ex_Machina" is a concept album set in an alternative near future in which the ruling class, known as Angels, maintain their world through artificial intelligence and other technology, which dehumanises people and effectively turns them into drones
Frontman Kenta ‘Ken’ Koie explains: “After we released last album 'XENO', we were thinking about what the next theme for us is. Then we decided to put theme 'Awake the individuality'. Because we've always trying to make new things and that's the big part of band's attitudes. Technology has been advancing from when I was kid, and it definitely helps the world but at the same time I feel like technology take out important process to think about individuality in exchange for convenience. This album is a grave warning for our future, I hope you guys listen to this and think about what the meaning of this album is for you and feel how you feel through this album and start something for your future”.
The band will also be in Europe for an headline tour next Fall,
